About our school

At Mount Riverview, we value optimism, empowerment, citizenship, excellence and knowing how to learn, and lifelong learning. Parents and teachers have high expectations, and encourage a sound partnership between home and school. Our teachers are friendly, accessible and responsive to parents.

Our school has around 231 students, in 9 classes, which makes us a small school. We have a peer support program that runs weekly throughout the first 2 terms for the whole school, developing friendships across classes, and leadership in our Year 6 students who run the activities. Because of our small size, our teachers on duty in the playground are able to be more proactive with any negative behaviour than occurs in larger schools, and are protective of the positive, nurturing nature of the school which has developed over many years.

Our school is situated between Rusden Road, Mount Riverview's main road, and beautiful bush reserve, looking towards Mount Hay in the west.

Despite being a small school, we punch well above our weight in enrichment activities, due to the efforts of our teachers and parent community.

In 2019, these included:

  • chess club (including participation in local and regional competitions)
  • choir (including participation in the state schools choral concert at the Opera House)
  • concert band
  • dance groups
  • debating and public speaking
  • participation in the Winmalee Cup (soccer and netball)
  • summer games (T-ball and cricket)
  • school representative council (SRC)
  • Futures program (school garden and sustainability)
  • maths, science, computer science, English, writing and spelling external competitions participation, International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)
  • maths olympiad
  • weekly gymnastics program in Term 4
  • sport in schools program
  • swimming safety scheme
  • Year 5 and 6 camp
  • Opera Australia Schools program.

The school was built in 1971. In 2011, our school had funding for and completed a new library building, a new administration building, a covered outdoor learning area (COLA) and a computer lab. In 2011-12, our parents and citizens' association (P&C) raised money for interactive whiteboards for all our classrooms. All our classrooms are air-conditioned, funded by the P&C.
